Laura Romaine is a painter who builds realms of artifice and exaggeration, whether depicting animals, humans, or some hybrid of the two. Based in Brooklyn, she primarily works with oil and acrylic. Her unconventional figures exude a carnal playfulness. The allures of consumer culture and childlike imagery are transformed into absurdist scenes that revel in the tactile richness of painting. Laura earned her BFA from the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida in 2015, and received her MFA in 2022 from the New York Academy of Art in Tribeca, where she completed a year-long fellowship program in 2024.

You can find more of Laura’s work at FRIEDA at 320 Walnut Street or check out her website.
