STUFFED is a collaborative exhibition by artist Pamela Prichett and Thomas Steinborn, who together explored the playful intersection of imagination and craftsmanship. This 18-month-long project began as a drawing game between Pam, based in New York, and Thomas, in Philadelphia. As they sent their drawings back and forth via the USPS, each of them added ideas and revisions.

Based on the drawings, Pam brought 8 stuffed dolls to life, using a variety of fabrics and sewing techniques. The diverse colors and textures of the materials helped to express each individual character’s personality.

The exhibition presented at FRIEDA is not the end point, but a step in an ongoing, open collaboration with the public. The essence of STUFFED lies in its celebration of play and imagination. Visitors are invited to actively participate by giving identities to the dolls and creating narratives for them.

Let’s have fun and play!

P.W. Prichett' STUFFED at FRIEDA (October - December 2024).

P. W. Prichett’s work spans a variety of mediums while consistently reflecting a sense of humor, an affinity for nature based forms, and a process-driven approach centered on imagination and play.Living and working in New York City, Pamela draws inspiration from the city’s rich cultural diversity and dynamic energy, which informs her creative process. Her artistic connection to Philadelphia has grown over the past several years – the city’s unique cultural resonance providing a creatively nourishing environment that complements the themes of play and discovery.
At the core of Pamela’s art is a desire to explore what she doesn’t already know, uncovering new insights deeper within the mind. By combining spontaneous and intuitive methods with unconscious and conscious visual memories, she creates work that reveals the unexpected and invites a deeper engagement with both the art and the viewer’s own perceptions.
As the work evolves, so does her relationship with the array of materials, skills, and techniques she employs for each project. Each medium brings with it its own personality, guiding and shaping the direction of the artwork.
For Pamela, the creative process is just as meaningful as the final artwork, offering fresh insights that go beyond the familiar and inviting viewers to explore new and playful ways of seeing the world.
