FRIEDA started in West Philadelphia with a team of retirees from local community centers and parishes. David, with the help of Emily, a young, talented baking intern from the Walnut Hill Restaurant School, reimagined rugelach. They created a rugelach that could be made by a team of bakers who lacked the dexterity to form the more traditional crescent or purse shape. This new process made our rugelach a new classic. We hope you enjoy this FRIEDA product, joyfully made and carefully packaged by hand by a team of 18- to 80-year-olds from neighborhoods across Philadelphia. Your purchase helps us create fair-wage jobs for people of all generations, many of whom are retired. Some of them are looking for a fun and meaningful activity that supports the community; others are working to make ends meet.
